Theft-proofing (was Re: Chinese Audi connection)

> Anyone for a thread on how to keep your car from being stolen?

For six years I've stayed at a hotel north of Detroit up to 20 days a
month, lots of auto break ins there. I have a genuine wool, embroidered
State Police baseball cap in my back window, as well as a State Police
Airborne Surveillance cap, and military stickers in the back window, and
military plates. It seems to have worked so far, definitely saved me
from some tickets. My VW stereo ate a tape once and I gave up getting
it all out, leaving a mass of tape and shell hanging for a week, a sure
car stereo deterrent. I considered making a fake tangled mass to keep
under the seat, even with a CD player it might look like a bad tape
deck. Now that I have an Audi I may just put my whole dash on
quick-releases for ease of maintenance, I could just carry it up to my
room like the removeable-face stereos!
