Re: display for ignition timing?

Yes, there is. A very clever and talented individual who wishes to
remain anonymous at the moment, has developed his own custom data
acquisition system which interfaces with the MAC11 and Mac14 ECU
(1986-90 5000/200TQ. Most likely will interface with other ECU's as
well.
It has an LCD display that shows the following information:
Ignition timing BTDC values for all five cylinders with knock
(K)indicator,
Engine RPM,
Manifold Boost pressure in bar,
Acceleration in one direction in g's,
Waste gate duty cycle,
CIS Freq valve duty cycle,
Coolant temp sensor voltage,
O2 sensor voltage,
CIS air flow plate position voltage
ECU Supply voltage,
Three K type thermocouple temperature readings
(i.e. can be used for intercooler in/out, ambient)
The data acquisition system is setup to download all the above mentioned
data into a laptop via RS-232, while you drive..... I am currently
testing/using one of these systems on my 89 200TQ and on my 88 5000TQ.
It is difficult to describe in mere words how valuable this type of
information is for tuning purposes, but WAY COOL! and UNBELIEVABLE!
works for me....
This data acq system "may" be available for others interesting in doing
some tuning on their modified Audis but the cost is likely going to be
over $500. There is also a more expensive commercially available data
acquisition system that I am investigating.
He also developed a separate LED light that comes on when the engine
first begins to knock which can be retro-fitted to the Mac11 ECU's with
some simple circuitry and a code change in the EPROM.
Stay tuned for more details!
