Bear Notch

Reading the comments to the list from participants on this drive, and the
impression they generate, I am beginning to wonder whether I was on the same
one. I can only speak for myself, and my view of Andy's car ahead, but at
the risk of spoiling everyone's rapidly escalating memories, this was a
controlled, albeit spirited drive. At no time on the Bear Notch road did I
feel I was at the point of incipient drift, much less loss of contro, there
were no 80 mph curves, braking and maneuvering could be done without
inducing a spin (even in my torsen), and while we might have been
susceptible to a moose that threw itself into our path, the road was clear
in our direction, oncoming traffic was rare, and there were no pedestrians.
Now, if I had been driving a 1956 Buick at those speeds, then I could claim
a prize for insanity, but with a quattro, it was just a brisk drive. So I
request my fellow travelers to stop trolling for increased speed enforcement
next year by overstating the actual risk.
