What type of center differential?

What type of center diff did the pre torsen 5k/200 (88 first year?) have?
Was it
like aplate type clutch setup? Open with some other type of locking mechanism?
The V8 had an electronically controlled multiplate c difflutch. Was it
just a
standard type 44 center diff with the locking part made electronically
instead of manually?
