Howdy Audi Fans

The other day my speedometer cable on my '84 coupe GT broke so I bought a
used one at the junkyard.  (this was the only one I could find not even the
dealer had one).  Anyway after I installed it the speedometer started
hopping more than even before from 0 to 20 when going 10 mph.  It does work
better than the other one, so I am happy. But what can I do to fix it?
