A4 potential purchase Questions

Hi all, just recently signed up for this group to get a better
understand of Audis. The A4 1.8T quattro has made my short list of a
potential new car. This would be my first Audi. Not going over to well
with my father since he works for Chrysler! I keep telling him he is
going to be working for a german company anyways!
Back to the car... I have a few questions. What usually goes wrong with
them first? I am concerned about the potential cost of parts since the
car is not a domestic product. I like the 3 yr/50k coverage, but I plan
on keeping the car for much longer. Is the tiptronic pretty reliable?
Also, is the sport package worth the cost? I live in SoCal (Ventura
County), and it would see a lot of highway driving/hills. So far I have
only drove one without the package.
