Subject: Galvanized body panels

Just had our '89 200 Quattro in to the dealer body shop to get an estimate
for replacing the rear fender. When I asked about the replacement part being
galvanized, he said the fenders aren't galvanized and he wasn't sure which if
any panels were galvanized. I've read many times that Audi uses galvanized
body panels. Which ones are galvanized?

My '91 brochures list "... an entire 27-step process all its own, complete
with full galvanization of metal body components to effectively resist
corrosion. " And, audi's web site (www.audi.com) describes a fully galvanized
shell (with a picture of the type 44 body shell (i.e., 5000/100/200) in bare
metal, including fenders). They're either uniformed, or trying to pass off
aftermarket parts as Audi parts (non-galvanized and possibly not as high
quality at a much lower price to them). If it's insurance related, you can
insist on genuine audi parts.
