5K engine swap

wife's 82 5Kturbo auto trans is getting tired.......she still loves the car,
doesn't want to part with it!      what is the newest engine that would be a
fairly straightforward swap into the 82 5000 ........also, when did Audi
come out with a 4 speed auto trans....thinking of switching to a 4 speed
auto trans.   because of a disability she requires an auto
trans.....................the later engine doesnt necessarily have to be a
turbo engine.
