Galvanized body panels

Galvanized body panels

Gee guys I must have gotten the wrong info. Years ago I was told all Audis since '85
were galvanized. The metal looks galvanized on my 86 4kcsq. It has allot of paint
chips on the edge of the hood. I have lived in New England, well since I was twelve
days old. So I know just a little about RUST. Every car I've owned (excluding 3 Audis)
Saab, Volvo, Ford, GM, VW, Nissan, if any of them had a paint chip in the fall.
By the time spring rolled around it was a hole or close to it. Audis well they're
another story. Paint chips might have surface rust by spring. Well except those pesky
spots around the windshield seal. My 86 4ks developed a hole there. When the wife
(soon to be X) stopped at what she thought was a 4 way stop, she soon discovered it was
only a 2 way. Anyhow she got T-Boned in the 85 5ks (lots of paint chips, big ones) the
metal looked galvanized to me. I drove the car for four more months, Nov-Feb (I was
amazed that with the side of the car pushed in 3-4 inches it still drove straight.
Nobody messed with me at merges. ) no rust. I only got rid of the car because err well
I couldn't get it inspected. My 86 4kcsq has been though two VT, NH, MA & ON winters.
It had a small rust spot, lower left front fender went I purchased it. No hole yet, not
even any substantial change in two years. Slowly I'm correcting all these small defects,
as I plan on keeping this car a long time.
