Re: After Run Devices

If you hook it up to a 9v battery(the terminals on the connector
thoughtfully have little holes in them, so it's really easy to hook up some
hooking-type test clips to power it for a second.

I've found that another good test is to run the after-run circuit manually
after letting the engine warm up completely. If the air coming out of the
radiator is still hot after several minutes, the pump is A-OK. For
comparison and chuckles, turn on the ignition and hit "AUTO" and feel the
temp of the air coming out of the radiatior; it gets cool fairly quickly(2
min or less.)

Running my pump with the 9v battery, I thought I heard what sounded like a
wooshing noise, with little "chunks" every so often. Maybe the impeller is
coming loose? <sigh>

Yep. That's one nasty-sounding fan, alright(or maybe there's something
wrong on my end :o .) Friends would joke that my car was having
indigestion because of all the weird noises it made after getting turned
off.

On a related topic, Bosch redesigned the EFI injectors around 1983-85 to
distance the needle+seat farther back to prevent buildup; this either
wasn't possible with the CIS injectors or they just didn't bother because
everyone was moving to EFI. According to the Bently book on Bosch systems,
the deposits form when the fuel right near the seat of the pin boils off.
Moving the seat+pin back just a hare drastically lowered the temps that
area hit, reducing buildup. The book also says that any decent fuel won't
leave too much in the way of deposits(but then goes on to recommend fuel
injector cleaner practically every month.)

I noticed a very slight improvement in milage _after_ using some injector
cleaner. The car ran very blah-ish with the cleaner, but after I filled it
up with a fresh tank of 91, it was much happier. Yes, the cleaner was OXS
safe+all.

(just got my Spearco catalog, chock full of fun, seriously expensive stuff.
Donations mailable to... :) Going to see what I can find in the way of
IC's that will fit, mostly out of curiosity since I lack the financial
funds for one. Too bad that aux radiator is down there, that would be a
fun place for a nice, thin, long IC, right at road level...with
lots-o-airflow...jeez...the "input" for the stock IC is just in the right
place, to chain them...<sigh>
