CGT cruise control switch

Does anyone know if the cruise control switch on the left-side steering
wheel stalk can be removed from the stalk and replaced/repaired?  

My switch is toast, and I tried to remove it this weekend, without luck.
It would appear that the switch can come off of the stalk at first
glance, but I could not determine how after playing with it for a little
while.
