Re: 5ktq/2e2q tire size database update
REAR:
For the rears you will need to cut a half moon shape on the inner fenders
with a cutting disc. This cut should ONLY go through(or heavily score) the
first wall of the rear-quarter panel, this cut allows the two walls to move
seperate from one another (avoids puckering the entire quarter). Next use
a baseball bat/pipe/whatever to roll the fender out and to shape
accordingly, repeat until desired space is created. If you only scored the
inner wall you will hear the sound of popping metal, this is the inner wall
completing the cutting process for you. You will also need to remove the
inner liner and cut a segment off, this allows you to reinstall the liner.
Also, you will need to fill the space in the cut metal with a silicone
sealant to prevent rust later on.
FRONT:
Remove screws at the top of the fender liner. Roll bat, etc. against the
inner lip of the fender until it is nearly flat with fender. Depending on
the tire brand you may need to grind off some metal on the tie-rod housing
of the strut (nearest the sidewall of tire) for increased clearence. Just
be careful not to take off too much of this metal!!!!!
This method was for an 89 200TQW with Eibach Pro-Kit, 35ET, 16x7.5, Dunlop
SP8000 225/55/16, TSW Hock R's.
If you have the ability to play with different offsets front to rear you
can obtain great results without metal mods. Case in point Graydon with
his monster 245's (makes me very jealous). :)
Hope this helps,
Dave
