Alternative to Eibachs for type44
Hi all.
Just wanted to post an alternative to the much sought after Eibachs.
I had a set of Jamex springs installed and have been driving on them now
for awhile (a few days with the fronts finally installed and a few months
on the rear springs since they were easier to install).
The handling is great! Very flat in the turns and great adheresion.
Bear in mind that all the usual suspects were changed out in the front
suspension at the same time, so much of the overall great feel probably is
the result of that work.
I'm running Boge turbo gas up front. Rear shocks are koni reds at ~70%
stiff with an aluminum spacer ring to reduce the lowering in the rear to
~0.75 in.
The front dropped about 1.5" or so but to the untrained eye the car looks
stock. This is possibly because our wagon previously had the largest front
fender to tire gap I have ever seen on an Audi!
Our master mechanic eye-balled the alignment, so I'm not sure what the
camber/toe/caster settings are but the car tracks straight and grips like
crazy. Also, gas mileage has increased? Maybe it was toed in a bit
before. Interestingly also is that most of the Mich. X tire squeal is
gone. I will get a 4 wheel alignment soon after I have the rear suspension
bushings done.
A major plus is that the set of 4 Jamex springs cost $110 delivered! That
is less than 1/3 the cost of the Eibachs I believe. The bad news is that
delivery took about 4 months. Yes, that's 4 MONTHS. Jamex USA has them in
stock now so your delivery time should be much better!
HTH someone. All disclaimers apply. I have no interest in Jamex. YMMV.
Yada, yada, yada....
