4kq brake systems compatability
My 84' 4kq is in need of a new Brake Master Cyl. upon investigation, I
have discovered that while a 5ktq MC is about $99. And a newer (85-87)
4kq MC is about $145, for an 84' 4kq which has the longer Brake MC, it is
about $250!!!!! Yea, right. I dont think so. I see three options.
1) BUy the expensive one and bite my tonge.
2) Upgrade my MC to the newer MC style which I believe requires only a
new/used Brake Booster??? Am i right on this? Is it very easy. Is there
more that needs swapping.
3) Upgrade to the larger 5k/200 MC. which I believe is the longer one as
well. V8* has shorter o like newer 4kq??? I have heard from some it is
hard and not worth it, and from others that is is easy and worth it. ???
OH, 4) Almost forgot, go to a custom hose/pipe/fitting place and have
them re bore the old Mc and put in new seals. Now idea of $$$$
BTW, I am after the best performance option. I severely doubt my original
MC is the best option for braking. If it is I will Cough up the 250. If
not, i will pay less for the same or more for better if I have to.
WHatever. Is the newer 4kq MC a better unit. Better feel, better
clamping force?
BTW, I want good but I do have a budget so no one suggest using a
Tilton Dual MC setup please. :)
