FS: 87 5KTQ, cheap, considering everything
Would someone please put me out of my misery? I foolishly, as it turns
out, bought an 87 5k Turbo Quattro last year from a list member who is a
friend of a friend. I now realize that it was a totally inappropriate
vehicle for a person like me, with no recognizable mechanical skills,
tools, or experience, to buy.
Since purchasing the car and attempting to put it into use as a daily
driver, I've had the following done, all as a result of problems that have
required repairs: front pads and rotors replaced; hydraulic hose replaced;
hydraulic pump replaced; lambda sensor replaced; rear camber links and
front lower control arms replaced; front struts replaced; battery replaced;
new Yokohama Avids; oil cooler line replaced. Total cost: $3834.04
The car is still not perfect, of course. It probably needs a new front
wheel bearing to take care of a front end shimmy under braking, and the
"little things" that I knew about when I bought it haven't been taken care
of, due to the other more pressing needs. So the cruise control, right
front power window, and seat heater need fixing.
I'm obviously not looking for someone to pay a premium price to cover all
of the repairs, but I have to believe that this car is now at least more
than "average." How about $5900?
Please reply privately to the email address below. Flames about my
foolishness, of course, can be sent to the list. ;-) - Pat
