Cameraderie

This story is a bit late for this thread....

Two or three times a week for the last 6 months or so on my morning commute
I have seen a 86 coupe. Not too unusual for the UK, but this one although a
bit tatty is being looked after by a youngish guy (in his own way, purple
respray and fancy wheels). After a couple of weeks of blank looks the penny
dropped and he realised that the driver of the red quattro was greeting him
every morning and he started to wave back. Today he learnt the value of
this.
This morning, about 1 mile from my house, I saw him pull into a lay-by with
the front of the car enveloped in a white cloud. I pulled a U-turn and
stopped to lend a hand. One of the coolant hoses that supplies the autochoke
had given way and most of the coolant was heading skywards. We set to work
with some pieces of scrap tube and hose from my garage and 30 minutes later
we went our separate ways.
Thats why its worth returning greetings - you never know when you might need
a helping hand.
