RE: wrc in the rain plus other ramblings
Nice report thanks Dave as I missed the rally due to being on call for the
weekend to help out a colleague and working Monday unavoidably :(, although
caught the TV coverage last night - pretty dismal coverage here considering
the global interest in this event (not rugby!!)
Other listers may be interested to know that I recently bought the video
"THE AUDI quattro Experience" (correct case as per cover) in which an
extended sequence of the New Zealand WRC round is described as "the most
beautiful rally in the world". The very same rally is under threat due to
lack of a major sponsor!! Our government should sponsor it for the publicity
our tourist industry receives.
BTW every quattro enthusiast should own this video - quality dubious in
parts but superb footage focussing on the cars and the drivers. PP Video
Productions PPV3120
Dave refers to a spectator who was injured - bloody lucky he wasn't killed.
The idiot is now saying it wasn't his fault as the other cars weren't that
close to where he was - d'oh - like all rally cars take the same cornering
line!! Colin's line through the corner was what I would consider "normal" -
we have seen the footage repeated ad nauseum on our TV channels here.
Those Toyotas were soooo smooth and well driven - these WRC drivers are
clearly from another planet!!!
I also have driven recently a Subaru tt wagon as well as an Impreza WRX - I
agree entirely with dave's comments about the twin turbo being a little
uninspiring especially in the mid-range - it is very quick but way less
exciting than the WRX - just don't try to go on holiday with the family in a
WRX.
Having now driven these cars as well as the new BMW 3 series (see my
previous post) my 2 year old A4 is still way out in front as a piece of
desirable hardware - not as quick as the Subarus but better in _every_ other
respect and much more involving than the beemer. I'm still madly in love.
