Re: AUDI as consumer vehicle....

Hi Andrei,

As far as a 100 with a 5 speed. They are pretty rare, but they are around.

89 - 92 spans 2 models.

89-91 is the older 5000 style body with the newer interior.

92 100 is the newer body style that runs into 98 as a A6.

Don't know about the reliability of the 92+ cars, but assume they are more
reliable than 89-91 100.

We currently have a 90 V8(mine) and a 89 100 Avant automatic 128k miles.

My previous 89 100 Sedan was rock solid, quiet and reliable as hell...
Only thing I ever did in 50k miles of ownership was a battery. Yes
the p/s pump leaked one can of pentosin a year. It consumed $30.-
in pentosin in 3 years :-) at this rate I couldn't justify
350.- for a pump installed. Bought the car for $10k, sold it for $7800.-

I had it from 45k to 95k, then sold it to buy the V8.

Bought the V8 at 48k and it's currently at 95k. I've put $2,000.-
into suspension work, struts, bushings.... And $500.- in various
pieces trying to fix a surge..... which is still there......

Next step there is a visit to Chris Semple when I get the money....

I've seen a few 89-90 100 5 speeds around for 3-5k.

There is one currently for sale in my area if your interested.

Hope this helps :-)

Mike L.
