That *IS* what VW is buying -- the automotive division of Rolls Royce. But
the name is still owned by Rolls Royce, the aircraft company (still making
engines, I imagine). From I can recall, the automotive division has leased
the right to use that name for the next 20 or 30 years.

BMW doesn't get anything. But BMW *has* been trying to hamper the sales of
RR (the car company) to VW by whining to RR (the air craft company) on the
use of the name. As far as I know, BMW has announced that it will stop
providing the V8 and the V12 engines exactly one year from this summer.

BMW didn't get $#!%. As such, BMW has annnounced a probable go-ahead of
9-series of "super luxury" sedan. MB has similarly doing a serious
consideration of the Maybach project.

Another rumor is that VW is considering resurrecting the Bugatti name.
Why? I donno. This rumor came after VW's supposid aquisition of RR in late
June...
