RE: Timing Belt/Water pump Good news
Well good news
After looking at the procedure for changing the timing belt and water pump,
I basically chickened out. I decided it's best to use the dealer since I
use my Audi for a daily 60+ mile round trip commute 6-7 days a week. Since
my commute gets dangerous during the bitter winters, I really can't afford
to screw up my only means of reliable transport. After locating the dealer
who knew the car, I found out that I don't have to worry about it.
The timing belt was already changed out at 59.5k mi. They did quote me a
price of $172 for timing belt replacement only if I provided the belt.
The service dude said that he has only heard of one waterpump seizing and
that I really shouldn't worry.... comments anyone? I'm still thinking of
the idler pulley though (darn forgot to ask about that... grr.. more on
that later)
The airbag recall has also been done.
I have to give my sincere thanks to those who responded to my questions:
DougQ
Tony Lum
Chris Newbold
Peter Coulter
Todd Young
Michael Murphy
Elliott Potter - for making me think twice about doing this
Robert Myers - for making me think thrice about doing this - prompting me
to find the dealer that knows more about the car.
Thanks folks
