electrial problems
okay, i've been having a problem with alternators. in january, the
alternator bit the dust, so i had a new one put in. it was not a bosch
alternator. that lasted for a while, until the beginning of june.
then, the voltage light would intermittintly come on, until eventually
the alternator was fried, andthe battery dead, so the car shut down.
had the alternator rebuilt, good for a alittle while. but after
installation it seemed that the voltage was still a little low when the
ac and lights were on. that alternator died a week ago. the rebuild
shop rebuilt it again for free, but i was still coming up with low
voltage under a load, and the voltage would not recover. i brought it
to an audi shop nearby. told them about the idea of the splice between
the alternator and battery being corroded, they said they've never heard
of such a thing. after an hour of searching for a possible cause, they
found nothing and instead told me simply that the alternator was no
good, and that i required a "proper" bosch alternator. so i ask, why?
isn't electricity electricity? additionally, my radiator fan is not
working properly now. it will only run in the super fast jet speed.
when the ac is switched on, the radiator fan will not come on, and when
it does come on the cool the engine at warp speed, the headlights blink,
and everything dims for alittle while. i presume this may be from the
poor alternator. i'm planning to purchase an ac delco rebuilt
alternator from where i work, and hope this will end the problem, but i
would also like to check the battery cable splice. any btdt would be
greatly appreciated, for example do i have to remove the passenger seat
to get to it? (which incidentally, along with the sunroof, does not
function anymore). for the radiator fan, do i just need to get a new
relay? thanks a lot,
dan

p.s. i know i've asked the alternator question before, but there is some
new info here that might put a flag up in someone's head like "oh, then
check this..."
thanks again
