This probably refers to the Cosmoline engine coating used for the
Atlantic voyage.
It's pretty tough, but does wear off after several years anyway.
I wouldn't worry about it.
For what it's worth, I found a GREAT engine cleaning product.
It's from Gunk, but it's not the solvent-based spray that is
usually sold. That stuff will eat wires, hoses, belts, boots, etc.
This is a spray bottle called something like "Super Green Gunk".
It is an industrial strength detergent and wetting agent. Worked
wonder on our two 10-year-old cars.
