The neighbor's tall white pine drools over our driveway and kills off the
use of a good bit of it because of the tar (and pine cone bombs). So tar
problem is  frequently encountered. I recently have been using an
automotive paint cleaner called "Product #7" (hmmm that doesn't sound
exactly right, but it's close.) It comes in a pint-sized, white/black/red
plastic container and does a pretty good job on aged pine tar.
