Wheel bearing removal

Does anyone know how to get the front wheel bearing off an Audi 4000?  Do I
really need to take the half shaft and the strut out?

I have a 1987 Audi 90 (European spec. - same as a 4000) and I have this
whining sound coming from the front left side.  It is especially noticeable
at speeds between 25 and 35 mph.  The sound is quite consistant, but varies
with speed, yet not related to engine speed because it continues constant
with vehicle even with the car in neutral, revving engine.
