85' Coupe GT falling flat on its face!

I was wondering if anyone has had a similiar experience with their
5cyl Audi Coupe's and if so how does one remedy the situation.

The car is falling flat on its face in every gear at about 4000 rpm.
The car pulls fine if I'm only on the throttle about 3/4 of the way
down. If I mash the pedal to the floor, it will pull only to about 4
grand where it will then fall flat on its face and only go as fast as
4 grand will allow the car to go. Its almost like the car is on
cruise control and will go no faster.

Has anyone ever had or heard of this
problem???

I've had this happen once before and I swapped out the ECU for another
one and the problem seemed to have gone away. So, I naturally thought
that the ECU was bad again and I bought 3 used ECU's and none of them
remedied the problem like before. I suppose its possible that all 3
ECU's that I purchased may have been problematic, but not probable.

A mechanic friend who has worked on Audi's in the past told me to find
the fuse labled KE Jetronic which is in the number 24 position
according to the cover on the fuse box with labeling diagram. The
owners manual does not recognize this fuse # or fuse position, nor can
I find a fuse # 24 on the fuse block.

Am I way off base here??? What can I do short of taking the car to the
Audi dealer and spending more on the car than the car is worth?????

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you in advance for your thoughts.

Regards,
