back from holidays (some, if little, Audi content)
My wife and I returned last night from our 1.5 week road trip to Germany
and Austria. Automotivelly speaking, the trip was a bit thin due to my
choice of traveling companion. (my opinion, not hers)
Dropped by Ingolstadt, saw a couple of TT Coupes, and, best of all, S4's
being shipped. Not much time to spend there, as we were in a hurry to get
to Salzburg, and it was pi**ing rain.
Stopped in Stuttgart on the way back to see the home of the "other" german
car in my life, and give my baby a chance to revisit her birthplace in
Zuffenhausen. The Porsche museum is small and far from spectacular, but
the 20-odd cars from their history that are displayed change often and are
guaranteed to get your pulse racing. They have many times more than the
cars shown at any one time in their collection, and I try to hit the museum
whenever I'm in that area. I try to hit that area fairly often as the Hugo
Boss factory (HUGE) outlet is just south of Stuttgart in Metzingen.
Oh yes, I recommend visiting the privately owned P-car museum in Gmund,
Austria, at the home of Ferdinand Porsche. There were close to 20 rare
race/street cars on display there. A beautiful medieval town as well.
I could not convince my wife to let us stop in Neckarsulm, as it was on our
way north from Stuttgart, as we had a fairly long drive to make to get to
our ferry out of Travemunde. At that time neither of us knew that traffic
would not represent a problem - we covered 450km in our first 3 hours...
This was the first time I took the Carrera to Germany, what a hoot it was.
Next trip is in a month's time, I'll know on monday whether my Urq will be
ready for Spa-Francorchamps or not.
Jouko Haapanen
88 Urq out for triple bypass surgery, 380 000km
89 Carrera, now 43 000km (ouch)
