I was visiting a sort of swapmeet here last Sunday, and there were a couple
of stalls with car stuff, among which sports steering wheels. There were
several wheels in wood and leather, with a number of hubs available. Among
them was an Audi item with a perfect reproduction of the four rings in
chrome on a black background, looking much like the alloy wheel centres on
CQ Speedline wheels. The hubs were also available with other logos in the
centre.
I hope the wheel fits your CGT, BTW. There were some changes to the hubs
between models- I replaced my plastic B3 wheel with a leather B2 item which
looked identical, but required changing the hub adapter to make it fit.
I still have the mint OE 3-spoke steering wheel (with a very deep hub) of a
1977 Golf GTI on the wall here in my study. It's a very rare piece
nowadays, as most cars've been 'upgraded' with hideous aftermarket
alternatives. I've used it in my old Jetta for a bit, and decided to hang
on to it for the Mk.1 Golf GTI which I hope to buy and restore someday.
