Re: More V8 Info
Similarly, I've always wondered why on cars (like my A4 and my Golf III) with
digital odo's that the mileage isn't TRACKED by the ECU and merely DISPLAYED
on the odometer. That would quickly solve the swapped cluster problem.
If you're thinking of purchasing a car and you have reason to doubt the
mileage, try www.carfax.com. They have all the title/emissions records. So,
every time the ownership changed hands, or the car was in for emission
inspection, the odometer reading is recorded and carfax has these records.
Also, if the car was ever totalled, they know as well. All you need is the
VIN. Best thing is, it's only like $12.
I did this on the 1990 80 I bought for my fiancee' and surprisingly, the 52k
on the odometer was correct.
