I think you'll find the lines even more blurred in the case of the 924
and 944, because they were in fact manufactured by Audi for Porsche,
in Audi's production plants.
The whole argument about "what's more or less of a Porsche" seems pretty
silly to me. The VW, Audi and Porsche entities have cooperated in many ways
over their respective histories, including sharing of parts bins and
engineering expertise and some cases, management. The "cross pollenation"
is a good thing.
