Things that make you go hmmm... (turbos...)



I was thinking of my blown out intercooler to throttle body hose today and
its failure mode. On removal it wasn't soft at the rip as one would suppose
from oil saturation. Instead, it was hard - due I expect from the excessive
heat radiating up through from the turbo. Especially after shutdown. I'll
bet a heatshield could be easily fashioned that would triple its life - my
last one didn't make 3 years.

Replaced the valve cover gasket today - old one was the cork model and
completely brittle. Obviously the source of my 500 mile per quart in town
leak, not to mention a decent vacuum problem. The new rubber gasket was
ribbed, providing multiple barriers to breathe in/out difficulties...
