Bent Wheels

Listers,
I recently purchased some used 15x6 Ronals for my '84 4kq. Prior to buying
them, I had a wheel repair shop check them out to see if they were
straight. Their report "All 4 are bent, one 'light', two 'medium' and one
'heavy'."

A second opinion from a general tire shop (i.e. not someone who makes a
living straigtening wheels) was that they were "pretty good, one marginal
but OK." So I decided to go ahead and buy the wheels for a reduced price.
Now I need to decide if I should have them straightened or not.

For those of you who are asking "so how bent are they?"... With my
ever-so-accurate tools - NOT - I have measure the radial and lateral runout
for each wheel. With a jack stand as my stationary bench mark and some
feeler gages I have come up with the following lateral / radial runouts
(inches) :

Wheel 1	0.020 / 0.016	'light'
Wheel 2	0.016 / 0.020	'medium'
Wheel 3	0.037 / 0.038 'medium'
Wheel 4	0.039 / 0.022 'heavy'

According to my Bently manual, the max. values for my car, with this same
style wheel in a 14" are 0.020 / 0.028

According to that spec, wheel 1 is marginal and 3 & 4 are out. At $60 each
to have them straightened, should I do them all? Just 3 and 4? or none at
all?

What are the ramifications of bent wheels? Poor handling? Will they
damage my bearings or tires?

Thanks,
Chuck Schott
