V8's

Scott,
I just went through a similar thought process. I ended up taking delivery
of a 1990 V8 Quattro the day you sent this message. This is my 3rd Audi,
2nd Q. it will be replacing my 97 5kTQ (which is for sale - advertised for
parts sale only). I am quite happy with the purchase, having paid 10,500
for it (83k on the clock). If you are in the metro Boston area, I was
scheduled to look at another 90 V8Q with 92k on the clock. The owner was
seeking $9,900. I haven't pursued the car having selected my current
driver.

Good luck with your hunt. And I hope to participate in the list a bit more
often!

I was glad to see your posts to the list about the V8's. I had been
reading such negative reports for so long that I had decided not to
consider buying one. Of course, the service writer at the Audi dealer
didn't help when she wrinkled her nose and mentioned how expensive they are
to keep up! But now I'm open to the possibility.
In any event, I've owned 3 Audi's since 1979 and have enjoyed them all. I
like their styling and feel I get a lot of luxury for very little money
when compared to other more popular cars. I'm somewhat thankful for the
negative press and the resultant lower resale values.
My 89 200T is becoming more and more expensive to keep up. From failed
heater cores to rear main oil seals and transmission seals, I think I want
something else. I think a V8 may be the way to go.
I get the feeling that they're available in the $12k price range, is that
your experience? I won't consider one without a meticulous service
history. I gather the timing belt is the big danger here.
It will be my primary car. I don't drive as much any longer, I'll be lucky
to put 12k miles a year on it now.
At the risk of starting another torsen-like thread, I'd be interested in
any and all comments.
