RE: a2
bob,
i really have no handle on the real values of the a2. it depends very
much on history, more than on condition. there is an a2 100miles from
here which the german audi guys told me would be worth 250k dm in europe
when restored (130k usd). i didn't believe them for a second, but it
did make you think! this particular car was used by hannu mikkola on a
few occasions, and then left (sold) in nz in '84 when the rally team
left. the present owner (name withheld) has had it since then, and has
rally'ed it within nz over the years. i had a good look at it a couple
of years ago, and have meant to have another look recently (potential
barn filler).
would it be worth more than a sport quattro? not in my opinion, and i
would be a potential purchaser of both, so my opinion does matter some.
but there is no acocunting for folks. the sport is quite a different
beast than the a2 which never had the 20v motor afaik.
an a2 as a daily driver would not seem to make much sense. the sport
wold be a much better bet than that surely? mind you, you may be
getting a really good deal relatively on the a2 as well.
you ask for moral support? hey man, do it.
hth,
dave
