From what I've learned on the list, most people aren't doing their own work
on the V8's. Why do you think that is?

Exactly what model's are the V8's, anyway? Are they available in Quattro?
What years where they produced. Why don't they share more parts with other
Audi models? Are they a different body style than the 44 I'm used to?

Scot- I can not answer all your questions, but I will add what I can, and hope
other listers will fill in the many gaps. I believe the V8 showed up in the US
in 1990. It was only available as a quattro, and came only with an automatic,
and 3.7L engine. In 1991, it was available with standard transmission, and a
4.2L engine. The A8 showed up in the US in 1997, so I am guessing the V8 was
made untill then. The sticker price on the 1990 V8 was in the mid to high $50k
range, and most folks with that resource do not like,or have to get their
hands dirty ergo the paucity of V8 owners self maintenance(at least
initially). As Audi fans realize the worth, and bargin the V8 offers, I
believe this will change.
