Some clarification may be in order here. For those who have never heard of the
Monterey Historic Auto Races I would like to direct you to the interview with
Steve Earle in the Sept. issue of EC (Steve is the founder of Monterey
Historics). Also look at Laguna Seca's web site (laguna-seca.com). The event
is widely considered the largest and most prestigous Historic Auto Race in the
world (with all due respect to Goodwood Festival of Speed, etc.) Many other
events happen around the Monterey Historic Race weekend. Most of the Featured
Marque car clubs try to have some sort of annual get together at that time as
well. (This year is the 356 Registry...but apparently not PCA as the Porsche
Parade is an event all of it's own.)
The track has one very large parking area that is located on the old track
surface (the straight between the old turns 2 and 3 before the addition of the
infield "stadium section"). This parking area is reserved for Featured Marque
car club participants. (Am I to assume that would be QCUSA and not the quattro
list?) I would also assume we will all purchase our tickets through QCUSA? I'm
sure we will hear more in a few months. WMBCCA overflowed it so we must make a
strong Audi presence next year!!!! (Our obligation ya know ;-) That means all
you local listers who own these cars by the six-pack (you know who you are...)
gotta get some designated drivers ;-)
For the past few years the event is actualy "sponsered" by Chrysler. Each year
a "Featured Marque" (or in some cases a "Featured Person"...Carroll Shelby was
one year) for the following year is announced at the event. This year happens
to be Porsche's 50'th aniversery as well as their being Featured Marque (for
the second time).
So, Audi is not "sponsering" this event, in reality this is better than
"sponsership". Typicaly the Featured Marque's factory rolls out some sort of
display from their museums and from private collections. Let's get to planning
on this one early...we only have a year.
