Don't worry, be happy! Was totaled w/minor damages
I have also noticed the tendency to total Audis having only minor damage.
Luckily for us, this means a ready supply of all kinds of recycled parts at
very reasonable prices. I've seen type 44's in junkyards with very little
or even NO accident damage, and little else wrong with them.
According to "the book", my 86 5 KS should have been totaled when (last
year) some dirtbag stole the CD player, doing $1,700 worth of damage in the
process - but that is at all-new Audi list prices.
Fixed the car from my parts car and $35 at the u-pull-it - but I did spend
$200 on a new CD player and also bought an alarm. Looks perfect, too.
As a comparison, there is absolutely no such thing as a totalled Harley
Davidson. No matter how nasty, ruined, burned or worn out ANY H-D or part
thereof may be, someone, somewhere, will give you money for it, and usually
lots of it, too. I'm not starting a thread that H-D is better than Audi
because no one ever junks a Harley - I'm just reporting existing market
conditions which work in OUR favor.
P.S. - How the heck do you get maple tree sap off the paint? Sap and Tar
remover simply doesn't work, fine rubbing compound helps a little, and
straight vinegar used with a dish scrubber does just OK on the windows -
but would be too harsh for the paint. HELP!!
