"New" '83 ur-Q Problems
Good Evening, QListers!
Thanks to all who confirmed the ATF usage in early ur-Qs. I opened a can
I bought at Fleenor's years ago, gave the pedal 50 pumps as stated in the
Bentley, and filled it up. Started it up, pumped some more, turned the
steering wheel from side to side a few times, and lo and behold, the
leak appears to be coming from the rear of the hydraulic system pump.
Fortunately, the Coupe uses the same pump (even through the Coupe GT
does not have a central hydraulic system). So I'll be able to get it driveable
sooner than I thought.
While running it for a few minutes this evening, I tried to debug the turn
signal problem (intermittant clicking of the relay). Removed relay, put
back in, no difference, started gently jiggling the wires behind the relay
panel, hmm, that wire feels way too warm, hmm, so does that one...
My 1980 4000 sedan had a similar-looking, old-style fuse panel. But
it was campaigned, original owner hadn't taken it in, and after I'd mailed
in the new owner cards, I got the recall notice. Took it in for a total replace-
ment, even though mine had not had any problems.
Was it the fuel pump relay they relocated that year? Is there a simliar
(possibly outstanding) campaign on this car?
Any help with this wiring problem is appreciated... I guess I could update
it using the Coupe GT a a donor, but that's a little more drastic than I
wanted to go.
