1999 Monterey Historic Automobile Races to Honor Auto Union, The Racing
Soul of Audi

MONTEREY, Calif., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Celebrating its 100th year of
automotive tradition in 1999, Audi AG will proudly present its rare Auto
Union racing cars as the featured marque for the 1999 Monterey Historic
Automobile Races. The world's premier vintage race, which will
simultaneously conduct a retrospective of its first 25 years, will be held
August 27, 28 and 29, 1999 at the Laguna Seca Raceway.

In their first year of competition, 1934, these thoroughbred automobiles
from Auto Union broke seven world records and one international class record.
For the balance of the 1930's, the Auto Union Silver Arrows, the first racing
cars to bear the four rings of Audi, took the racing world by storm and left
a performance legacy that can be found in each and every Audi product today.

"We are honored that the memory of Auto Union victories remains so strong
with automotive enthusiasts," said Gerd Klauss, Vice President in charge of
Audi of America, Inc. "The glory days of the Silver Arrows are just one part
of Audi's rich one hundred year automotive tradition that is being celebrated
around the world in 1999." Audi will feature a number of rare historical
cars from each era of its history at Monterey. This is the first time that
any automobiles from Audi's history have been selected as the featured marque
 at the Historic Races.

"The Auto Unions earned a place at the top in racing history and deserve to
be honored. That we will be able to do this at Monterey makes us very
proud,"
remarked Steven J. Earle, president of General Racing and organizer of the
Monterey Historic Automobile Races. "With the full support of Audi AG, we
expect to have the greatest collection of Auto Unions ever shown in the U.S.
We will be celebrating our past 25 years and continuing a tradition of
significant features with one of the greatest names in history."

In its 25th consecutive year, the Monterey Historic Automobile Races,
presented by Chrysler Corporation (NYSE: C), is a celebration of auto racing'
s history. The very rare race cars that are accepted to compete are chosen
based on historical significance and authenticity.
