Yes indeed...such a model existed. The reason "most people don't seem to know
it exists" is due to the overall lack of (US) sales during those model years.
I recall seeing them at dealers and car shows so they were imported in small
numbers.
Hmm...Hand crank sunroof and manual climate controls? Add manual windows,
sport seats, and a 20v I5 turbo and you just about built my "dream type 44"
quattro! (Read take away a bunch of problems...just leave the good stuff
;-)...) HTH
