ISO: dimensionally correct strut inserts, 82 coupe

As the subject says, I would like to know how hard it is to find strut
inserts the same OD as the OEM ones (BOGE) that I removed... about
44mm.  The spares that were in my parts car were 42mm and allowed some
lateral movement, so I bought some new KYB's which were also smaller but
came with some cheesy stamped steel washers which supposedly keep them
in place.  Well, something is moving up front, under hard braking or
sometimes when shifting, and I suspect this part.  Suggestions?
