American's and stick shifts (long)



I agree with the sentiments, but the roads (and traffic speeds) are
radically different in the U.S.  As are the distances.  In southern
California, driving a daily commute of 100 miles round-trip is not uncommon.  

Sure, you can't change lanes safely while drinking coffee in traffic.  But
if you can't drink (or eat a wrapped burger) while cruising down a straight
freeway in light traffic, you are way to handicapped to be a safe driver in
a city.
