Fuel Pump-'89 100q

Colleagues:

The fuel pump on my '89 100q is buzzing--of course it has been doing that
for about a year.  Noise does not get any louder it is just there.

anyway, it is probably about time to replace it.

My questions is does the fuel tank have to be dropped or is there an
access plate somewhere to facilitate the project?

I know--knowing Audi not only does the tank have to come down the entire
rear suspension has to come apart as well as the windshield wipers and
seat heaters!
