poor starting q

patient: 87 4kcsq

symptoms:

on a cold start, she'll start fine idle at 1k for a few seconds, then drop
down to near zero, at which point she'll just sputter and cough for a few
more ugly seconds... then, she'll kick in some gas and send the rpms to 2k
for a brief moment, then finally settle into 800 rpm....

very annoying ... time for wires/plugs change and other tune-up stuffs?
