Yes, Wagner wrote a huge four part opera in honor of them.

Tolkein tried to get it on it but he thought there was just one.  

There also used to be a child's rhyme about the Black Death that
presaged the 60 minutes fiasco.  I think it is the reason why there is a
stem vase on the dashboard of the neo-bug...
