4kcsq Maintenance
This is a big email, try to bear with it. I've found so much help here, I
figured I may as well put it all in one.
I am interested in what sort of maintenance I can be looking to perform on my
1987 4000 CS Quattro with nearly 180k miles on it.
New within last year:
Lifters
Clutch
Sway bar links
Complete Intensive fuel system/throttle cleaning
Tinting =]
Tires
Rear Differentials
New ATE Powerdisc rotors on the front and new metal pads
3 Windshield(s), lots of rocks, don't ask
Steel-braided brake lines
New Alpine Stereo with 6 speakers
Work Done:
Regular oil changes (1.5 months apiece) with Mobil1 10w-30 and some Dura-Lube
Engine Professionally Steam-Cleaned
Radiator flushed and refilled
Service to be done (wanting):
Replacing rear rotors with ATE Powerdics
Service Needed (Recommendations on what I can do myself?):
Gear Lube change (What is THE BEST stuff I can put in?)
Reattachment of the "Defrost/Heater" knob...The one that sticks out. Well,
when you have an "amorous" girlfriend in the passenger seat, you don't want
the center blower blowing on her face, it's in bad taste....=] How do I
remove that little panel?
1.) Trim - How can I make all the trim the original black it was when the
car was sold?
I've done the whole "Silicone trim restorer" route and I'm looking for
something more permanent. Left side black window trim has some ghosted
paintswirls on it, how much to repaint?
2.) Rims - There is some curb scuffing on a few of the wheels, and some
10-year old brake dust that still eludes my scrubbing fingers, how can I
get rid of the orangey-reddish crap? OR, how can I replace them with my
continually posted "SAAB" rims woes...Those three-spoke solid aluminun jobs.
3.) Paint Job - Suzanne needs a paintjob to restore her beautifully vivid
Tornado Red color as well as clean up some dings and surface rust. How can
I do the prep work myself? And I need detail here....
4.) Acceleration/Engine Rebuild - How can I avoid rebuilding the engine so
I can get more acceleration/performance without coughing up a lung or
selling all my assests?
5.) Stalling - The car still nearly stalls out when it's started, running
at 1k rpm then down to nearly nothing, then racing, then nearly coughing
out....It does this wihtout my foot on the gas for about 20 seconds, then
it smoothes out.
6.) Buzzing sound - There is a high-pitched buzzing sound, exactly like a
swarm of bees, under the left rear side of my car. What the hell could
this be?
7.) My front suspensions bottoms out on big bumps or depressions,
especially with weight in it. How can I stiffen up the top border of my
suspension so that it doesn't smack the ground when I hit it going over 10
mph.
