R-12 cost in Canada?

We live about two hours from the Canadian border and I am told by a
Canadian friend that Freon R-12 is very inexpensive in Canada, due to the
fact that the sun rarely shines up there and thus high-impact rays are
welcomed.  Whatever, hye?

Can any of our knowledgable Canadian Q-heads give the price per pound of
R-12 in a Canadian Tire store and/or comment on what the local mechanics
charge to recharge?
