A good padding might be made from insulated 2 x 4' cieling tiles.  They
are basically a 1/2" sheet of fairly stiff fiberglass with a thin layer
of vinyl barely adhered to it.  Put it all over inside my doors'n'stuff
just for fun.  3M sticks it well.  Put a leftover piece under the
hood(!) with the last of the sticky spray (not enough), it lasted a few
months until my accident knocked it loose.

Now where did I put that Phillips hammer?
