clunking noises

Dear listers,

I hope someone can give us a hand (u've been v. gd in the past)
with a new problem my audi ( '85), 80 sport (1.8 i), with a 5 spd
manual box. Since I've bought the car there's been a clonking noise.
I renewed the suspension and hoped it would go away ( just also put a
new track rod in because it was bent and will get the camber adjusted
and optiflexed next week) but the noise recently got worse and it
doesn't seem to be suspension related because......When u go a long
and accelerate or brake the'rs no clonking noise, but as u
drive keeping constant speed the noise occurs , sounding just like as
suspension problem.(but is definately not!) It seems to be a
transmission problem, and someone suggested the springs in the clutch
friction plate were worn. Does anyone know of any possible/known
causes?

Really hope that someone knows hoe to tackle the problem.

Cheers

Ed
