Mine is an '86 also only w/quattro :<)
All of my bulbs that I have checked have been
clear/whites.
I pulled the aux. cluster (volt,BAR, oil temp)
from
an '86 4000s today and it is clear/white also.
The one I have in my hand now is for the ash tray
and it is
a glass bulb. As is the headlight switch (!PITA!),
not a fun one.
Your lighting must be DEEP red. I wouldn't mind
seeing it.
Has anyone ever used LED's instead ? I've never
seen bulbs like this
at the parts store this small (1/2 inch long X
3/16" dia.).
