My 100 had the converse problem - intermittent failure to run the fan
when the temp. sensor demanded. You can usually verify the proper
operation of the relay in a rough and ready way by listening for the
click of the contacts when the sensor cuts it in and out. It appears
that any old VW/Audi relay (or indeed probably any others) of equivalent
amps rating and pin configuration will work (some are metal cased
Hellas; others larger, plastic cased (Bosch ?) and I replaced mine with
another from a collection acquired from salvage yards.
